Argentat and the area
Argentat Le Bastier
The house is situated on the edge of a small hamlet just off a quiet country lane approximately 11 kms from the picturesque town of Argentat and the Dordogne river. The surrounding countryside has outstanding charm and is predominantly woodland and for walkers, a delight to explore. There are many spectacular views of the gorges of the upper Dordogne and its barrages.
The whole area is dotted with beautiful lakes, many of which have been made suitable for bathing - the nearest being Laborde which is a ten-minute drive away. For water sport enthusiasts, there are larger lakes nearby that offer water-skiing, windsurfing and boating. There is also canoeing and kayaking down the river Dordogne and for the angler there is plenty of freshwater fishing. There is an excellent 18-hole golf course half an hours drive away. For the more energetic there is tennis and horse riding nearby.
Argentat - Quai Lestourgie
This region is renowned for its gastronomy and there are many good restaurants in the area that cater for all tastes. For shopping there are excellent facilities in Tulle and Argentat. There is a good market in Argentat every Thursday morning and the market at nearby Brive on Saturday mornings is the largest in the region and a visit is highly recommended. If you want freshly baked croissants every morning, the local bakers are in Forges and St Paul.
This is a peaceful location in the heart of beautiful countryside and is nonetheless a convenient base from which to explore the Limousin, much of the Dordogne and the western Auvergne.
